Type Locality and Naming

Along the Shing River, Zarafshan-Gissar mountain region, Central Tajikistan. V.R. Martyshev, 1956 (290, pp.51-57; 264, pp.3-37). Stratotype in the area of the Daurch River, Tajikistan.

Synonym: Shing Suite, Шингская св.


Lithology and Thickness

In the Lower part - clayey dolomitized limestones

Higher up - limestones, dolomites with rare layers of quartz sandstones, gravels, argillites, and cherts.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

It conformably overlies the Shakhriomon Gr limestone

Upper contact

It is conformably overlain by the Arg Gr dolomite series (460).

Regional extent

Zeravshan and Gissar ridges.

Fossils

In the Lower part - contains a large number of stromatoporoids - Ecelimadictyon microvesiculosum Riab., E. fastigiatum Nich., Clathradictyon bareale Riab., C. regulare (Rousen.), C. vesiculosum Nich. et Murib., C. microstriatellum Riab., etc.; tabulates - Palaeofavosites schmidti Sok., P. alveolaris (Goldf.), P. hirtus Sok., P. oelaensis Klaam., P. paulus Sok., Syringopora scabre Sok., etc.; rugose - Cystipaliphyllum kimi Lavr., Pseudophaulactis lycophylloides Zapr. et Ivnsk., etc.; brachiopods - Resserella neograssa (Nikif.), Pentamerus magianicus Men., characteristic of the Llandovery stage of the early Silurian.

In the Upper part - They contain stromatoporoids Ecclimadictyon schachriomanum Less., Plectostroma sumsarense Less.; tabulates Thecia ramanovski Lel., Halysites sp. (cf. batus Tchern.) etc.; brachiopods Pentamerus ex gr. oblongus Saw., Virgiana ex gr. barrandei Bill., Acanthispirifer cf. edelsehteini Men. of Llandovery-Wenlock age (264).
